Custom Pokemon Cards for Best Friends — The Ultimate BFF Birthday Gift
Buying for a best friend is a trap. You know them too well for a generic gift and not formally enough for an expensive one. A pokemon card custom made about them threads that needle exactly: it costs less than dinner and it is funnier than anything you could say out loud.
Here is how to build the best friend card — the moves, the photo, the finish — and which designs to start from.
Why the Best Friend Card Is the Easiest Gift to Get Right
- You already have the material. Every inside joke from the last five years is an attack move.
- You are allowed to be unflattering. With a partner you play it safe. With a best friend, the meaner card is the better card.
- You have the photos. Your camera roll already contains the correct unflattering image.
- It reads instantly. No explanation needed — they see their own face and the joke lands in two seconds.
- It goes in the group chat. Which is, realistically, the point.

Writing the Attack Moves
This is 80% of the gift. The formula: name a real behaviour, give it a number, add one condition.
Moves that consistently land
- "Seen at 11:42" — 60 damage. No reply for four days.
- "One More Drink" — 120 damage to self. Cannot be resisted.
- "I'm Five Minutes Away" — opponent waits 35 minutes.
- "Unsolicited Advice" — 40 damage. Always about your relationship.
- "Third Wheel Stance" — immune to awkwardness.
- "Sends Reels at 3am" — 20 damage per notification.
- "Splits the Bill Wrong" — damage varies. Always in their favour.
The rule: specific beats mean. "You're always late" is a complaint. "I'm Five Minutes Away — opponent waits 35 minutes" is a gift.
Element type by personality
- Fire — the chaotic one who plans nothing and ruins everything successfully
- Water — the one who always has snacks, plasters and a charger
- Electric — the one who texts "you up?" at 2am with a business idea
- Psychic — the one who knew about the breakup before you did
- Dark — the one whose advice is always "block them"
Picking the Photo
Two schools of thought, both correct:
- The flattering one — they will actually display it. Choose this if the card is going on their desk.
- The cursed one — funnier, and they will never let you forget it. Choose this if the card is a joke first.
Either way it needs to be at least 1000px wide with the face clearly visible and lit. A screenshot of a story will not survive being enlarged to card size.
Which Finish?
| Material | Best for |
|---|---|
| Metal | Wallet carry. The card they show people in a pub. |
| Acrylic | Their desk at work, where colleagues will ask about it. |
| Holographic acrylic | Milestone birthdays — 21st, 30th — and anything being filmed for social. |
Add a stand if it is a desk card. See our display guide.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I put both of us on one card?
Yes — a shared friendship card with both faces is a common order. Separate photos can be merged.
How long does it take?
A digital proof usually within 1–2 business days, then production and shipping. Allow around three weeks before a birthday.
Can I order matching cards for a whole friend group?
Yes. Group orders of six to twelve cards are routine, and each card gets its own design and wording.
What if my photo is bad quality?
Send it anyway — our designers upscale and retouch every image, and will flag it before production if it genuinely will not work.
Are these official Pokémon cards?
No. Original fan-art keepsakes in a trading-card layout — not playable, not affiliated with Nintendo or The Pokémon Company. See what is a poke card.
